Today Transportation Projects

[Note: Governor Granholm's Jobs Today! program provided
one of the funding sources and a window of opportunity that will
allow the Miller Road Reconstruction Project to be undertaken.
Here is some information about the Jobs Today! program.]
The Jobs Today Initiative is Governor Jennifer
Granholm's plan to create jobs and jumpstart Michigan's economy
through a rapid infusion of public and private investment. MDOT's
road and bridge projects are a significant part of that initiative.
Under Jobs Today, the state of Michigan announced in 2005 that
it would accelerate $618 million in spending for critical road
and bridge projects across the state. Over two years, this investment
will fund 158 projects. These accelerated projects are in addition
to the Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) announced
road and bridge investment levels for the next five years.
On March 7, 2006, the governor announced Local Jobs Today, a plan
to stimulate the economy by speeding up local transportation projects
across the state. The three-bill package was overwhelmingly approved
by both Houses of the Michigan Legislature on May 10, 2006 and
signed by the Governor on May 22, 2006.
The Local Jobs Today plan will provide grants and
loans to cities, counties, and local transit agencies to allow
them to take advantage of available federal transportation funding
and create more than 7,100 jobs in Michigan in 2006 and 2007.
Federal rules allow MDOT to match only those funds
identified as directly related to road construction. This does
not include funding for sewer upgrades or separation that may
be done in conjunction with road projects.
