Local Road Repairs for Chip and Seal Resurfacing Repairs consist of "spot patching" of holes and machine
patching of settlement and distressed areas.
Repairs are 100% funded by the Road Commission with the following
maximum
funding participation:
Double Chip & Seal:
Maximum Road Commission funding will be 50% of the estimated chip
and seal cost. The chip and seal cost is generally $11,000 to $12,000
per mile. Based on a machine patching cost of $3200/ton and 50%
of the chip and seal cost of $5,500 to $6,000, a maximum of 170
to 190 tons of machine patching will be funded by the Road Commission.
If the Township desires additional material, it will be 100% funded
by the Township. An authorization from the Township to place additional
material will be required on or before the day the contractor is
placing the machine patching. In 1996 Local Road repairs for double
seals varied from $1,000 to $12,000 per mile.
Single Chip & Seal:
Maximum Road Commission funding will be 50% of the estimated chip
and seal cost. The chip and seal cost is generally $6,000 to $7,000
per mile. Based on machine patching cost of $32.00/ton and 50% of
the chip and seal cost of $3,000 to $3,500, a maximum of 100 to
110 tons of machine patching will be funded by the Road Commission.
If the Township desires additional patching material, it will be
100% funded by the Township. An authorization from the Township
to place additional material will be required on or before the day
the contractor is placing machine patching. In 1996 local Road repairs
for single seals varied from $1,100 to $3,900 per mile.
Consolidation:
If the Township chip and seal program involves more than one road
location, repairs and chip seal can be combined so the repairs for
the total township program is funded by the Road Commission to the
extent they do not exceed 50% of the total estimated chip &
seal cost for the entire Township Program.
